The Our Lady of Perpetual Help Praesidium was formally created on September 18th, 2015 by the unanimous vote of the Legionaries from Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Praesidium. Permission to form a new praesidium had already been granted at the previous meeting of Our Lady Queen of Victory Curia in Topeka. The praesidium was came into existence due to several different factors:
- The number of Legionaries in Our Lady Seat of Wisdom were to the point that the meetings were getting long and important points for discussion were getting dropped to keep from going over time.
- The opportunity to receive new recruits was being curtailed because of the meeting time at 2:00 on Fridays (a time which worked for all those currently involved) and a new meeting time on Monday night would attract new legionaries who couldn’t make it on Friday due to scheduling conflicts.
- The new time would make it easier on some of the current members by giving them an opportunity to attend a meeting time that better fit their schedule.
- A second meeting time could make it easier in the future when trying to find meeting times that could work for everyone, thus ensuring that the Legion holds on to its members from semester to semester.
In accordance with the Handbook, the current members went to each praesidium to ensure that experience could be found in both. The first meeting was held on October 2, 2015, the Feast of the Guardian Angels.
Unfortunately, after a couple months, both praesidia began experiencing a decline in membership and a breakdown of communication between the members of both groups, which forced the praesidia to consider having OLPH collapse back into OLSW. Discerning that this was the most prudent form of action to keep the Legion an effective group on campus, the members of OLPH returned to OLSW.
